What is the Arizona Scholarship Account for Families?
The Arizona ESA program allows parents to receive a portion of their child’s public school funding when they choose to opt out of the public school system. These funds can be used for various educational expenses, such as private school tuition, online education, educational therapies, private tutoring, or future educational costs.
Key Details:
Eligibility: Arizona residents in grades K-12, who are not enrolled in a public school.
Funding: Eligible students receive 90% of the state funding that would have gone to their school district or charter school, disbursed quarterly. In 2022-2023, this ranged from $4,000 to $43,000 depending on the grade and type/severity of the disability.
Approved Uses:
The Arizona ESA covers a variety of educational expenses for eligible K-12 students in Arizona. Here’s a breakdown of what expenses are typically covered:
Tuition and Fees: Payments to qualifying educational providers, including private schools, online schools, technical colleges, and universities.
Textbooks and Curricula: Costs associated with purchasing educational materials, textbooks, and curriculum necessary for the student's education.
Educational Software and Hardware: Expenses related to software programs, educational apps, and computer hardware that support the student’s learning.
Tutoring Services: Fees for tutoring services aimed at enhancing the student's academic progress and understanding.
Services for Students with Disabilities: Costs for specialized educational services and therapies, such as occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, and other related services.
Extracurricular Activities: Fees for activities like after-school programs, summer camps, and extracurricular educational experiences that contribute to the student’s development.
Basic Internet Service: Essential internet services required for educational purposes.
Other Educational Expenses: Any other expenses directly related to the student’s education, as approved under the ESA guidelines.
